The classic cookie is now available in a limited edition Rainbow variety in honor of LGBT History Month this October.
Only 10,000 packs of the snacks have been made, but they won’t be sold in stores. Instead, fans have a chance to win them by showing acts of allyship for the LGBTQ+ community.
Each cookie is crammed with one of seven different colored cream centers, inspired by the hues of the Pride flag, and it’s the first time the brand has had a pack with varying cream colors.
The colorful cookies coincide with Oreo’s “#ProudParent” partnership with PFLAG, which bills itself as “the first and largest organization for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer people, their parents and families, and allies.”
The partnership produced a new three-minute short film called “Proud Parent” that depicts a young woman bringing her girlfriend home to meet her parents. While the mom seems supportive from the start, the dad is standoffish at first. As the visit goes on, he has a change of heart and is seen at the end painting his white picket fence with the bright colors of the Pride flag.
The video aims to celebrate the crucial role of parental support in helping lead to wider LGBTQ acceptance.
To win a pack of the limited edition cookies, Oreo fans must share a photo of “what allyship means to them” on Instagram or Twitter, tagging and following @OREO, and using the hashtags #ProudParent and #Giveaway.
Eligible winners, who must be aged 13 or older and live in the U.S., must be among the first 10,000 people to enter, and will be notified by the company’s official page via direct message on Twitter, or comment on Instagram, with further info on how to get the goods.
